That's generally the case.
But for me, it's always the villains or "bad guys" that make story interesting which is why I always root for villians

It won't be a true fight. The HKs will retreat and regroup. Killingham told Gunko and Sommers not to get Luffy pissed off. Gaban's intimidation by haki will be one more reason the HKs retreat without a full-fledged brawl. For the sake of story, there also needs more Brook-Gunko lore before Gunko is in a full-fledged fight.

HKs will embarrass Gaban with their regen trick, and exhaust the old man. Gaban had upper hand but then became tired when the HKs keep regenerating.

Luffy, Zoro, Loki came back. Zoro will pull a Monet on Gunko, while Luffy and Loki will face the other 2.

As a big Gunko fans myself, I will say she will get enough respect by Oda, by having her facing Zoro and get mindfucked Monet style.

That is still better scenario than her being reduced into Ulti 2.0 of the arc and ends up being Nami or Brook's opponent.
Getting one shot and mindfucked by Zoro is best possible route and Oda's biggest respect for her.
