I would say the greatest pirates were the ones who were able to be backed by their own governments or others. For example, Sir Francis Drake was genuinely a hero to the the English and was knighted. He also traveled the world which is a plus.

But I guess you also have someone like Blackbeard who, while taken down quickly, left his mark in a short amount of time, genuinely shocking the world with some of the things he did, and was more of a true rebel, I guess, as opposed to someone who viewed himself as attacking an enemy country.

Also, honorable mention to the pirates who kidnapped Ceasar, and if they weren´t crucifed for it after he was freed, it would certainly be a thing to brag about

Out of those options, I'd pick Bartholomew Roberts. A special mention should also go out to Henry Every, who committed the single most profitable act of piracy in history, got called the greatest pirate and then had the good sense to retire and disappear with his loot before the authorities got to him. :saturn:

Edward Low was even worse and cruel
Yeah he wasn’t the most impressive pirate at all
Just a real sick motherfucker

But it’s nice to compare One Piece Law and Low the pirate. Low was someone who loved to cut piece of people, removed heart etc
That maybe helped with Law devil fruit powers

Same for Kidd the real pirate irrc was caged into iron bars or something etc

Blackbeard easily. When you think of piracy, the first pirate anyone thinks about is him.

Btw, biographics channel has videos on most of the real life pirates. It's pretty good stuff.

Probably that one Chinese woman that had hundreds of ships in her fleet
Zheng Yi Sao? At her peak, she commanded between 40,000 to 60,000 pirates and around 400 'junk' ships.

Granted, these ships weren't especially large and were mostly made of wood so a cannonball would sink it in a single shot but still, commanding hundreds of them is still impressive, so credits to her for that.

Yeah it’s Mrs. Ching (I fucked up her name in the poll)

That woman is the OG Yonko with thousands and thousands of pirates under her command

BB did good things but when I read some stuff I find some other guys to be more impressive / having greater accomplishments

Yeah I remember reading about her online but forgot the exact numbers. Iirc she ventured to the sea because her husband was murdered or died at sea so she did it as a revenge ploy.

And I mostly remember her from Pirates of the Caribbean, though the movie version might have been less impressive
