Questions & Mysteries Why did Kishi make Edo Tensei so overpowered?

Seriously, it’s just ridiculous how OP this jutsu was.

It not only let Kabuto revive dozens of powerful shinobi at basically full power, but it seemingly cost barely any chakra to do so. All that Kabuto needed was a minuscule amount of DNA from the shinobi, and any random fodder to be used as a vessel. And any shinobi you revive is forced to serve you unless they know the hand signs like Madara did, or have an extremely rare and situational counter like Itachi using Kotoamatsukami on himself. If that somehow wasn’t enough, the shinobi you revive basically have infinite regen and need to be sealed in order to be defeated, and they also have infinitely regenerating chakra because why not

It’s just funny to me how this jutsu seemingly costs barely any chakra at all to cast when even just a regular summoning jutsu is noted to cost a lot of chakra
Yup, imo he simply went "fuck it, I have no time for lengthy explanation or deal with the humongous cost this ability should have" and simply put it in. He get his EoS crisis and everybody is happy.

Kishi kinda just forgot in the war arc that powerful jutsus cost a lot of chakra to use. Kakashi went from not being able to use Kamui 3 times without dying to spamming Kamui against Tailed Beasts, Obito, and the Gedo Mazo

Because Kishitmoto is a hack and enjoys wanking Orochimaru & his skills (aside from obviously wanking the Uchihas and their skills).

In part 1 Edo Tensei was seen as an "ultimate jutsu", which is why it required sacrifices

In part 2 Kishi knew the zetsu army would be boring af, so he brought back the OP jutsu to raise the tension

Not just any shinobi can do what Kabuto did. Kabuto made Edo Tensei overpowered, Tobirama's version had the Edo Tensei revived at a fraction of their full power and used them solely for suicide bombings.

Orochimaru up'd the precision of the jutsu and Kabuto advanced it further but still had problems controlling Edo Tensei at first—Sasori did escape the jutsu. It's only after absorbing more of Orochimaru's chakra that Kabuto was able to strengthen his hold on them.

The average person could not do what Kabuto did, even if they had Kabuto's methods. Orochimaru's chakra was integral in controlling these Edo Tensei at their full powered forms.

It's more about Orochimaru (and Kabuto) being strong than Edo Tensei being OP. You can't make it OP unless you're that powerful yourself

Ok but this doesn’t change the fact that the infinite regen and infinite chakra regen were over the top
