Character Discussion Why do you all hate Oden's character that much?

I don’t hate him half as much as Oda does...how could you read his flashback, see him act like an impulsive transient while his country burns and then watch him dance like an asshole to appease the guy who usurped him all before dying a noble (but ultimately futile) death, and think that the author actually likes this guy??

Because Oden is a villain everyone treats like a hero. He's made everyone's life worse & I've hated him from his 1st panel to now
He literally funded his usurper, ignored all his followers, left his country with no fill-in, turned his back on those begging for his help, then ditched the crew that took him in, all for his own ambition.
Cherry on top, when he finally starts to give a shit, its WAY too late & he has the balls to act shocked. Yet somehow, people (and Momo) are praising him as a savior 2 decades after he lost/died. Hell, it woulda been more interesting if Yamato took after her murderous, warlord father, that's how bad Oden is.
Protecting the Scabbards was the least Oden could do & he shoulda received 0 praise for it

I don’t hate him, but Oden putting his faith that Orochi/Kaido would keep their promise and leave Wano in 5 years seems absurd. Even if he’s essentially being blackmailed. Did he even keep tabs to see if they were even making those boats? Lol

Oden sucks and all the 7 samurai are trash. It was just an underwhelming backstory. All of that Oden/Wano hype for that? I was expecting some badass. Same with the Shogun who is also a goof. And how/why is he so strong? He kind of just came out nowhere as a semi deus ex machina and I hate that kind of stuff, especially when the character is so goofy and comedic. He's also kind of an idiot.

why do people think oden was a top tier? he wasnt. hes not even as strong as rayleigh. he got beasted in one casual move from roger and totally overwhelmed, and whitebeard also kicked his ass zero effort
oden was just a charismatic samurai who people liked in wano, but he was more interested in his own dreams than being the savior. he died for his friends instead of saving everyone together because he wasnt good enough. hes kind of tragic and i liked the backstory. momo is already more of a man than him

Because he's a dumb motherfu*ker! The dude was twice as strong as Kaido, he had more man power than Kaido, he had stronger followers than Kaido, he had Whitbeard as his brother, he had his wife time DF... and dispite of it all he still lost to Kaido. The dude even had his blades with him in the cell, but he just gave up, for what?
His stupid actions forced his daughter to become a whore, his son was forced to flee for his life, his wife died (not really, she's probably alive), half the country starved to death for 20 years, another half was enslaved or killed.
