In every fandom there is the good ones and there is the retard ones. Sadly, Zoro is a great character with the most retard fanbase ever. I think its a coping mechanism to overcome the insecurity they suffer from being total losers in real life by role playing as Zoro in their own dream world and there they get to defeat the bully they fear in their school or work place.
His personality has had a slow decline since his introduction.in thrillerbark he took on the rope of being Luffys top commander but honestly in the story he was never necessary. He hadn't done much by that point. Post skip he lost his humor to gain a not so funny rivalry with Sanji. Before their rivalry was just their personalities clashing. Zoro said something about Nami and Sanji attacked. If you think about that in real life then that's a bad start to a team.
Though now it's just a petty squabble about who is stronger. It's nit even competitive like it was they just hurl insults at each other and Pda takes major shots at Sanji making him less and less cool. Also we know how strong Zoro was pretimeskip it wasn't ambiguous. For the last 12 years Zoro hype just jumps to whatever tier to the point where he is surrounded by three yonkous and blocks a combined attack from two of them.
Also his fan base is annoying, we don't know if he's blind in one eye, he's constantly shirtless and I think that does something for his male fanbase.
