Questions & Mysteries Why Gol D. Roger gave himself up?

#1
Title is really a question rather trying to be an introduction of a theory. When one knows that he had a deadly disease, rather trying to find his peace or doing anything that would leave much pain to his family/reative, he gave himself up to he Marine just to get chopped off and more importantly every single one related to him got hunted down as well. I don't understand the action of this character. Or should I interpretate that he's a pirate so he did his savage way to his death?

He knew he was dying anyway he didn't have time or the strength to do anything about what he found out so he started the great pirate era so someone can do what he couldn't and the best way to get the biggest audience and guarantee article in the papers was on the execution platform

He likely paid that guy to ask that question

Fate is not on my side, I'm dying and have no means to stop the WG. Even if I tell someone else the truth, they may not believe it, or they may be targeted and killed by the WG. How do I fuck with the WG the most with the little time and energy I have left? Hm. Sure, I'll convince all the greedy suckers the world round to go look for my fat treasure; in the process, someone is bound to stumble onto the truth, and maybe Fate then will be on their side. So long, WG, here comes the slow revolution of the romantic and the avid!
