I don't think Oda really planned on it being that short.

Zeff sailed the Grand Line for a year and made it back.

Don Krieg barely lasted 7 days.

Strawhats were at the end of Paradise in 2 months and change.

imo, pre-skip should have lasted 6-12 months.

The SH crew has spent less than a year together, which feels really weird since with the way they’re written, you’d think that they’ve known each other for several years. Brook has spent like only 2 or 3 months total with the crew. Oda could very easily work around this by just making the SHs stay at islands longer in order to reset their Log Pose, or just make the sailing time between islands longer. Why doesn’t Oda do this? Does he want Luffy to become PK at no older than 19, or is it just something he doesn’t consider or care about?

Hancock got to know Luffy longer than Nami did btw

One Piece is almost like a glorified Pokemon that's why. Ash stays a kid forever. I'd say One Piece's primary purpose atm is to sell as much merch as possible, the story is secondary to that.
