Questions & Mysteries why would itachi tell sasuke to kill his best friend?

Itachi is pro Konoha but more importantly, pro Sasuke.
he was willing to risk a new world war to secure Sasuke's standing, so extremes for Itachi are obviously not off the table. What he really wanted was for Sasuke to be strong enough to kill him, which would make him a hero and too powerful for Danzo to get rid of.

There is no good or bad, there’s doing what’s good for Konoha and his brother.
Itachi wanted Sasuke to be a hero and murder him. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was willing to let Sasuke kill his closest friend for this—he did break Sasuke’s arm and mentally torment him until he went comatose for his mission.

Eh, he’s the main character so he gets away with a lot

I’m not saying they were “bad” I’m saying they likely had to do fucked up things at some point just like most Ninja
I’m not justifying the massacre, I think Itachi’s deluded and a terrible brother

I mean... not really? Kakashi was called a Friend Killer by people in the village
Not to mention the situations are very different
