Great topic. However, this is gonna be difficult to answer. :gokulaugh:

Off the top of my head, limiting myself to one character per series, in no particular order:

1. Kurisu (Steins;Gate)



Maybe the Anime female MC to end all anime Female MC. A prodigious tsundere scientist whose intelligence is bested only by her kindness. The fact that she is secretly a pervert for Okarin makes her all the more human and exceedingly endearing to watch.

2. Lelouch (Code Geass)



Come on, you know this flawed but endlessly entertaining anti-hero is gonna be here, right?

3. Johan (Monster)



This anti-Christ mf is commonly regarded as Anime/Manga's greatest villain, and it is a tall order to even begin to disagree.

4. Kakihara (Ichi the Killer)



There are plenty of Yakuzas in fiction. Make sure this permanently-smiling, proudly sadistic (and masochistic) pain-loving torture freak is the one gangster you never encounter.

5. Fable (The Fable)



OP main characters are a dime a dozen these days. You know how well written an OP MC is, then, if his being OP is the least interesting thing about him. Take this one, for instance. The nigh-unbeatable top hitman of the series, but his journey to rehumanize himself remains the most engrossing thing about him.

6. Ed (Fullmetal Alchemist)



I used to dislike him when I started reading FMA 20 years ago. Despite all his goodness, Ed can be an insufferable jerk who is stubborn and hard-headed, while being super smart about Alchemy. But, reading him now, I can appreciate him as a flawed and gifted character, who learns from his mistakes just like most people. Of all Shounen MCs, Ed is perhaps the most human.

7. Dio (JJBA)



You thought JJBA's best character was going to be a Jojo, but it was he, Dio!

8. Anya (Spy x Family)



There are many reasons why Spy x Family, both in Manga and Anime forms, became the monster hit that it is. If somebody tells you that this girl, who can lay claim to being the best written (and funniest) kid character in any Manga or Anime ever, is not reason number 1, you better lolnope that somebody.

9. Takopi (Takopi's Original Sin)



If somebody had told me that a manga about an innocent and funny looking octopus alien visiting our earth is gonna be an unforgettably bleak story that make me cry, I'm gonna give that somebody a smug smile only to later apologize to him/her, because Takopi and his journey did make me cry manly tears.


10. Maomao (The Apothecary Diaries)

Oof, tough question, I will answer with the characters that pop into mind right now in no particular order (Except 1).
I give myself the rule that I will only chose one character from a series, but I find myself liking a lot of different kinds of characters.
