I don't know what the hell Oda has in mind for that ability, honestly. Like what he's saying with it or setting up for the future or whatever. It seemed so random pre timeskip that we just can't be certain how it'll play into this.

Maybe he has control over Asura and it takes another form. Doesn't have to be the 3 heads thing.
It can be a temporary boost with a demon aura like.
That's what maybe some people have been feeling when they see Zoro, but now Zoro has control over it and releases it differently.

The only way for Zoro to replicate Oden's scarring feat is to using his strongest attack which is Asura. Kaido is a perfect opponent for Zoro to use it.
