The rooftop battle is close to impossible to win for those guys. Big Mom barely did something. Kaido in base could have already speedblitzed everyone who's there, bar Luffy, into a coma.
Hybrid Kaido is already hardly beatable by himself and that's him not even showing what his awakening can do. Same with Big Mom and her different stages of power: She's gonna show her awakening abilities aswell, which are most likely far superior to the stuff we've already seen.

With a legend like Oden there we can see how he fares against that hybrid (+awakened) form and how Zoro and Luffy compare to him.
I didn't know I needed this, before it actually happened. Now I really want that stuff to happen.
Obviously Oden would be time limited or something like that. So he might just be there to stage for Luffy until he transitioned to the next level, granted that he was completely fresh when he presumably was back in the past for his execution.

All in all this might legit be a very cool move from Oda, IF you give it a chance.

Actually having Oden here and seeing how he fight back against Hybrid or even awakenend Kaido would be cool, also it would show us how strong Actually Oden is. In that case I also agree with you, I would forgive Oda for chapter 970 too, I was so disappointed about that battle back then, but with Oden vs Kaido round two Oda could do every better for me in that case and I forgive him for chapter 970.

Their is something fishy about the whole situation, about how Oden handle and beeing sure that Kaido get defeated later, in that case he sacrifice himself for his Scabbards knowing they finding later incredible good pirates who help for the downfall of Oden.

Other point is that Oden vs Kaido was rushed, Oda literally finish the fight so fast to not showing both true power, before they could fight all out, the Old hag do the mission. However Oden could now get the chance to show the true power of a top tier swordmen fighter.

Hmm makes genuine sense... if he time traveled while he was in the prison..wouldn't his condition have reflected in the present too.. coz their sentence (the scabbards and Oden's) was in a week... if he time travel within that time.. he should still have bandages on plus his dress changed too... so ye there is that.

Wow that is a interesting point, so Toki could send Oden in everytime during these 3 days until he came back in the last day?
3days are enough for Oden to go for one day into the future, helping the alliance and coming back.
Interesting also that Oden has heal power over someone as a zoan monster like Kaido?

What I can see:
Toki port Oden into the future but in case after Kaido defeat he come 1-2m into the point where he was teleport away(it could be during the night where the Scabbards sleep and didn´t noticed that Oden was away for 1-2mins).
She could send him 1-2days before the raid begin, where he recover(Oden has high recover power) and be prepared for the war and after the war ends and we get a big festival, Oden could travel back to the point where he get killed(since Toki power in this way could have a timelimit). And until his death he could wait for 3days, in that case Oden would not effect the events from the past with going into the future, he don´t would have his real swords and he could come back to sacrifice himself to save the Scabbards.
