He was going to give his life for Zeff and the crew in Zou. Then Luffy came and he thought he couldn't win against BM so he didn't follow Luffy orders and tried to beat him to make him turn back.

Thread is bait but after thinking about it, it actually makes his chances higher. Although I don't think Sanji has CoC.
