Orochimaru's whole look, personality, manneurisms, his serpentine eyes, abililities to steal the appearances of others and the way he could extend his head to bite you like a vampire, and the way he acted like a predator stalking his prey were super creepy and intimidating.

When he was introduced you knew that he was real business and someone to give legit nightmares to viewers.

Orochimaru was an absolute embarrassment in part 2. His only purpose was getting clowned by Sasuke and Itachi, and his best moment in the the entire post time skip (literally) is ganking Yamato in a 4v1.
