Break Week Eustass Kidd vs Big Mom: The battle of tarnished reputations

This may or may not be Oda’s intentions but, It’s kind of funny how Big Mom chased after Luffy and came to Wano because he and the twisted rumors ruined her reputation




but now instead of fighting Luffy she gets to fight a man whose reputation was also ruined by twisted rumors her and her crew put out. Kidd. Remember in Udon, Caribou implies that because of the false rumors that Big Mom spread in the newspapers about her commander ripping Kidds arm off and making him run away, his reputation is in shambles.



And we know that Big Moms crew was obviously responsible for these rumors spreading.



If Kidd were to be recognized as the main guy who “beat” Big Mom, he would be taking his reputation/glory back in a BIG way. Imagine if he takes her Yonko position...

This Kidd vs Big Mom matchup makes more sense the more and more I think about it. I think a pretty good narrative for this matchup has already been set up. The battle between pirates with a tarnished reputation fighting for glory.

Who will take their reputation back?

P.S, since I already know the Kidd haters are going to say the usual,
“Kidd is trash, he can’t beat 1 v 1 Big Mom.” and
“Luffy must beat Big Mom, side character Kidd will get knocked out next chapter.”

- I don’t think he will beat Big Mom 1 v 1.I think he will get plenty of help from other Supernova. But he will be the “main guy”

- I believe in the final battle Luffy and Kidd will fight BOTH weakened Kaido and weakened Big Mom in a 2 v 2. (Or 3 v 2 if Law is there). So Luffy will still basically beat her.

- I do think, Kidd gets recognition for taking down Big Mom and takes her Yonko spot though.

Big mom losing to kidd has been set in stone since fishman island.

People just don’t know wanna accept it for some reason.

It’s definitely no coincidence that in her character introduction the first guy we hear is messing her was Kidd. I remember when that FI chapter first came out, many fans were predicting that Luffy and Kidd would end up fighting Big Mom together. Since then most fans have kind of backed off that prediction, but I think that it still ends up happening. Just took a long time to get there lol.

But yeah, Kidd getting the glory for “beating” her and taking her Yonko spot would be the perfect revenge for the false rumors her crew spread. Good chance it happens imo.

Do you really think simply losing a fight revokes your position as an Emperor and all the influence that got you there lol

Unless Kid claims all her land and kills all her subordinates she will remain one of the yonko

The stage has already been set for Kaido and Big Mom to fall and lose their Yonko positions thanks to the Worst Generation. Don’t be surprised when it happens.

I think Eustass will continue having a full fight with Big Mom strictly. I don't think he will return to fighting Kaido again.
Big "Mom" ~ Captain "Kid" seems like a predetermined matchup. There's a lot to gain from this fight for the audience.
  1. Information on the exact circumstances that led to the Kid Pirates vs BMP.
  2. Who exactly is that General Eustass Kid injured? [I think it's Smoothie]
  3. What thing/treasure/Poneglyph Eustass took from the BMP.
  4. Why did he attack BMP for this item?
  5. Lore and Background of Eustass character.
  6. His fight against the Red Haired Pirates.
  7. Who took his arm?
  8. Lore and Background of Killer's character.
Overall, I'm changing my stance on Eustass Kid, he might show more promise than what meets the eye given there may be a direct correlation between Eustass and Captain John. Lore interests me more than Agendas if anyone is wondering.

Now given my intrigue on the character, what I think will happen is this:
I'll preface this to say that I believe there will be Act Ending chapter coming soon. So...
  • Next Chapter Eustass Kid is washed by Big Mom. This isn't baseless nor bashing of his character, Eustass Kid shined last chapter just as Luffy shined 923 against Kaido then got dealt with 924. Both Luffy and Zoro are knocked out, we are given the probability of Killer's tide against Hawkins, and Law hasn't reached the area; so the atmosphere is gloomy.
  • I am confident Eustass will be able to give a good fight to Big Mom, just not now. I think we will end off on Eustass getting bopped, but next Act, Law joins the fray and they will work together (just as they did against the Pacifista in Sabaody Archipelago). This way they should be able to wound Big Mom eventually (I also have full faith in Law to damage Big Mom and his move pool is larger then we know of, given arc to arc progression).
  • While these two are fighting Big Mom, I believe in the process, Kaido will be defeated by Zoro of course, Killer will defeat Hawkins, and Luffy will shift his focus onto Big Mom to assist Eustass and Law given they've been handling BM for awhile.
  • Killer and Luffy joins Eustass and Law, and given he's the MC, Luffy will use power ups learned against Kaido on Big Mom and eventually defeat her into Permanent O'Lin. [Or on the off chance she continues on to the next arc as a villain again]

Kid's battle with Big Mom is interesting because of their existing grudge.

The reputation thing well, I guess he wants the record set straight but it doesn't actually mean much since he already knows the truth is completely different. Like Big Mom would want to squash Luffy because he's the source of her problem, but she is actually irrelevant to Kid's problem with Shanks, get it?

I personally would enjoy a bit where he realizes that those are Kaido's officers trampled under her and flips out like "argh fuck pirate alliances! Fuck you fuck everyone!"

Yeah but most the One Piece world still thinks that Kidd ran away from her and lost his arm to her commander. I think it’d be pretty fitting if he ends up embarrassing her in the newspapers. Kind of like setting the record straight I guess. Or even getting payback.

It's nice in terms of his story from where we sit yeah. But it's not really payback if there's... nothing to pay back. He got what he wanted and took a W in the process. Caribou made the mistake of talking shit in his presence, but I'm not sure Kid really gives a shit about what people think of him. If he destroys Big Mom but never gets another crack at Shanks, then it isn't worth much.

I think you might be underestimating how much Kidd cares about what people think of him. The fact that he so quickly corrected Caribou in the Prison shows that he does in fact care about what people think of him. This is a guy who kills people for laughing at his dream. I also think it’s very clear that one of his main motivations of fighting is for fame and glory. Notice how one of the main reasons he even came to Onigashima was because he didn’t want to let Luffy get all the glory. This was the reason he said to Luffy in chapter 974.

Now of course his grudge against Shanks probably means more. But if a guy like Kidd has a chance to fix his reputation up, I’m damn sure he’s taking that chance lol. Out of every Worst Gen Pirate Kidd probably cares about what people think of him the most tbh.
