Nah, I was never one of the people that shat on Luffy. I simply downgraded Luffy from Mid Top Tier to Low Top Tier, but I defended him from the people that tried to downplay Haoshoku coating.

That said, I don't think getting defeated before running out of haki matters all that much. It simply confirms that Kaido didn't use his Awakening to best Luffy.
