No, I think Yamato was meant to be depicted as ~ Ace, I just think Yamato was only Base Yamato.
It might be the case that:
But like, Yamato does not appear to use a Devil Fruit against Ace. It's really hard to argue that she did. There is no indication that she left her Base form, and there are indications against it (we see several scenes of their battle up to its final conclusion, and Yamato is in Base every time).

It might be the case that:
- Yamato had never used her Devil Fruit before the shackles were removed.
- Transforming may have set them off as her wrists would become too big to contain them.
- Yamato had not yet consumed a Devil Fruit when she fought Ace.
But like, Yamato does not appear to use a Devil Fruit against Ace. It's really hard to argue that she did. There is no indication that she left her Base form, and there are indications against it (we see several scenes of their battle up to its final conclusion, and Yamato is in Base every time).
