I think it kind of works in a similar manner, but this one actually heals wounds/broken bones, damage to the tissue and stuff.

The "side effect" is just what Oda thinks it's a good excuse for asspulls like this.

chopper still making the medicine . So the marco vs king will happen while chopper is working on it and luffy and zoro will both recover at the same time so its obvious that zoro luffy vs kaido round 2 will happen
