This episode of the One piece podcast has an interview with an animator for episode 913 who animated the scene with a flashback of Kaido vs Denjiro and Shutenmaru. At the 1:07:00 mark of the podcast, he says he asked The anime staff of One piece if thehey had any reference material of what Denjiro actually looked like since he was working on this before Denjiro appeared in the manga and bone of the staff had any idea about what Denjiro looked like.

So that puts an end to that. The anime staff does not know who Denjiro is even less than a month before he appeared in the manga

It could be bait for the fans. Like Luffy and Sanji fighting Akainu and Kizaru in an opening, or Luffy fighting Kaido and Zoro and Sanji fighting Jack in another.
