That’s more video game logic than anything
In video games it's usually the fantasy armor–or made up armor for lack of better word–that is slow. But overall yes, the video games have done their portion of damage as well.

In France, we learned the history of Crusades at school. Baldwin IV died so young. To think the guy was fighting during a giant battle at only 16yo and was suffering from leprosy. Total respect.

i'm not exactly sure what the extent of the changes are since there are barely any online comparisons for it, but it's usually just some drawing corrections and undimming.
