Oda just doesn't like that I guess. But One Piece can be pretty brutal, I mean slavery exists and all that gross stuff.

Remember though, that this manga is mostly aimed at 12-14 year olds.

One piece can be brutal aswell, Big mom eating Kids/her friends, the whole Mink tribe get brutally hurt,Neko and Inu panel was very brutal. Perospero who lose his arm yet looks like a demon. One piece has his brutal moments aswell, probably not much as KnY but he have it more then other shonen.^^
