You take double damage immediately afterwards … so your endirance is cut in half
Zoro took Hakai, which broke 40 bones in his body, and would have killed him, had he sent even another second in it's blast radius. This is on top of a multitude of other attacks that he suffered on the rooftop.

So what kind of damage exactly could Zoro possibly suffer at this point where even double the effects would be remotely comparable to what he took on the rooftop?

It kills any and all tension of there being any type of real threat to Zoro, if the damage accumulated before supersedes any type of damage he could potentially accrue, even at double the potency.

Thats why Zoro is fighting King and not rqndom fodder

the fact that Zoro is a ridiculous tank is what makes it possible for half endurance Zoro to still beat a top commander

you are asking why the drug wasnt spammes by mink fodder, thats the reason, they would get beaten back into their injured state TWIce as fast

Which is the same for Zoro if he were again fighting two yonko… But he isnt… he’s gonna fight king now and this half endurance nerf is Oda making the fight fair

The fight on Zou was already over with the exception a a handful of Beast Pirates remaining on the Country. Unless you think Sheepshead and Ginrummy could have beaten the entire Country of Minks down just because they were at half endurance. Duke and Inurashi were both on deaths door, but even they didn't take the medicine, despite them playing a pivotal role in bringing the Dawn. There is a reason for that.

If the drug functions the way you think it does, then it's not really that big of a drawback, and the pros of taking it FAR outweigh the cons.

That could be the case, the same way Oda nerfs Sanji by putting him to get some bitches, or play the white knight and get caught by the strongest female enemy in the arc, like Black Maria and her female subordinate, he does to Zoro with damage so Zoro doesn't keep fighting for too long and you have room to build moments with other characters, including moments related with the "nerfed characters", thats normal.

The Robin/Sanji moment with Black Maria, that even led basicly the whole fight for Robin.
The Sanji/Zoro moment when Law left the rooftop.
Queen clowning Chopper instead of killing him right away until Sanji arrives to save Chopper while carrying Zoro.
Luffy and Zoro facing CP-9, getting defeated and stuck in chimneys while Sanji goes to save Robin and Usopp from CP-9 in the seatrain
and many others...

This happens since ever, especially in arcs like Enies Lobby and Wano/Onigashima
