but what exactly is mafia and how to play?

In pure and simple terms:

There are two main factions - Town and Mafia.

Town are in the majority and don't know each other. Mafia are in the minority and know who each other are. The goal of the game, if you are town, is to identify the members of the Mafia faction and eliminate them. If you are Mafia, then you're goal is to eliminate members of town.

It's a game of logic, deductions and deception. But your main focus is to have fun. It's a social game after all.
