I think you're getting confused since this is a counter claim scenario. Don't worry about it, and think it through.
Generally town will never hesitate to claim because they know only one role, which is their own role, and which is 100% always safe to claim. Scum claiming is almost always risky because they don't know which roles made it into the game to fake a claim of a role that isn't in the game, and unless they're given fake claims, it's 90% unsafe to claim for them early on. So early claims are generally town indicative.
In a counter claim scenario, such as the one between Light and myself, there are 2 things to consider:
a) Scum guessing a role that isn't in the game at the beginning is almost null due to the reason above. This is why they're given fake claims. So me hinting at a character from the beginning, who is being counter claimed now means 2 things -
- I did not claim a fake claim since I'm actually being countered now.
- Due to the reasons above, hinting at a role that was surely in the game from the beginning would be a death sentence to me from the start. Which is counterintuitive to scum hiding among townies at the start of the game.
b) Locking a claim in a counter claim scenario would be death. Me counter claiming Light here would be a bad move if I was scum because it's still 50% odds that I'll be lynched. If I win the odds and Light is lynched, I still get fucked at night. Meaning I lose both night actions and can't even lock 2 lynches in place.
Really from all of this, me claiming Remi from the start, to counter claiming Light now would be a very elaborately dumb move. It's logically the most unwarranted move by scum. So don't doubt your read of Light being scum and me being town. I've explained logically why you are correct.
