He didn't abandon it he protested and was against the idea at first until Hiyori begged him explaining how much it meant to Wano that it's considered a national treasure. Even in the latest chapter you have Kawamatsu bringing up Shusui return as very big deal there is no way he could have kept it

Perfect for me, if Zoro already get this much hype in the begin of the battle, hell King vs Zoro could even surpass Zoro vs Mr.1 since King has few aspect on his hands too. Zoro showing something new or even getting a powerup is also a mad hype for King.
