I always thought Ashura being Adv. CoC was weird, due to the fact that Mihawk should have explained it to him at some point during their training.
He not knowing what it was is simply "pre-TS Luffy" plot. Zoro came out of the TS knowing what King's Haki is. He not recognizing it feels clunky.
