I think Oda probably plans to have a scenical comparison between the two dragons with Kaido in Dragon form but once things get serious perhaps at least Momo will get replaced by Zoro and Yamato will eventually be done for too.

Well here Oda coul make the excuse that all the attacks Kaido ate are taking an effect with him, and Momo also trained with Zoro too and will put that training into use now that he has a very sturdy body as an adult and dragon df.

They didn't, not all of them! Kinemon, Rizo, Kiku, traveled through time, they didn't the time or luxury to train. It was another "ass pull" with very cheap explanation!
