Character Discussion Yamato doesn't deserve as much hate as she gets

I personally like Yamato as a character but from what I saw a lot of people have a weird understanding of what Yamato represents as a character. I'll try to address to the best of my abilities why I think Yamato doesn't deserve that much hate.

1. I am Kozuki Oden

This one is the biggest one and I always felt people neglected one core part of Yamato which is that Yamato is the victim of abuse ever since she was a kid.

Put yourself into Yamato's shoes. You are born to Kaido, destruction incarnate, your whole life is nothing but seeing people die and suffer just because your father is strong and believes he can have his way with things. That same person ordained you will be what he wants you to be totally throwing away your desire and your freedom. That is your shitty childhood.

Until you saw death of Oden.

Oden represented a figure Yamato desperately needed in her life. A father
Oden represented free will that Kaido took away from Yamato
Oden represented power used to protect people rather than destroying.
Oden represented love and care Kaido never gave Yamato

Imagine yourself, a kid of 8 years - seeing that. Imagine how starstruck you would be. Everything in your life in front of you - and then taken away by the same person that torments you.

Yamato suffered immensely, she wanted to be like Oden, she wanted power to protect, power to have free will, power to make your own choices. She swore to be like Oden, to represent him fully. Combined with Trauma she suffered Yamato developed an Oden complex to keep herself alive.

She took a beating after beating and her spirit never wavered because she truly believed it is her destiny to carry on Oden's legacy.

But where does Yamato go after that?

Well I personally believe that by the end of the arc Yamato will refer to herself as Yamato rather than Oden. She will fulfil her role and duty and once that is done she will not need to be Oden anymore.

2. Yamato's power level

One of the things I noticed is that with every chapter where Yamato shows more power the hate for her grows. Inferiority complex strikes and certain people feel the need to bash the character in order to save their own fav characters. Name calling ensues and a deep and saddening hate starts. Bar Sanji and Zoro i haven't seen such hate regarding someone's power in a long time.

Then there is people saying Yamato being that strong is BS.
Well that is absurdly wrong. We literally learned through out One Piece that person grows most in power when faced with Life and Death.

Yamato literally faced Kaido for god knows how many times, 1 on 1. Beating after beating. Her power level makes absolute sense and we didn't even yet see her ultimate attack and she managed to put Kaido on his knees.

So IMO i think people are just insecure when it comes to Yamato's power level and they feel the need to bash her to feel better.

Overall I think people bash Yamato without truly looking deep into her character. I've rarely saw a criticism that I can consider valid. Most is just screaming into the wind with little to no care to understand the character

She is eye-catching, powerful and mysterious in a way....nothing to dislike imo.

This is pretty much the staple for all one piece chapter/character discussion. Whether it be Zoro/Sanji/Yamato. Wish we could tone this down...but then the discussions would be dead. The forum pretty much survives on this.

She is cool, nothing impressive, but cool, think the hate she got, come lot from how upseting her gender-debating fans are in theirs endless debates, in such a small time they were able to become even worse than the Sanji vs Zoro powerscalers. A lot of hate also from those powerscalers that fear theirs favorites Sanji/Zoro being weaker than Yamato if she happens to join the crew, what dont make any sense as even if she is stronger than them now, they will eventualy become strongest and supass her.

She doesnโ€™t deserve hate but she is kinda boring if she were to eventually join the straw hats maybe her interaction with the others will be kinda interesting but so far sheโ€™s whack.
Hopefully Doesnโ€™t Join.

Yamato, execution wise, is very stagnant & repetitive. Her "interactions" with Momo and Kaido have been the same thing chapter after chapter after Chapter for multiple chapters.

Cool design and power aside Yamato is very one dimensional & doesn't add much of substance.

Throw in the fact they have a connection to ace + the force feeding I am Oden will of course turn people away. It's also a reason people didn't like Oden because of how much oda tried to force him onto the readers.

For a last minute possible addition to the strawhats & this being what we've gotten so far isn't appealing.

Not only that but we started this raid with Jinbe officially joining & shortly after we get "I am oden" it's very jarring. + I know we got her flashback but I think it would help if we saw a bit of what Yamato was like before being inspired by oden because even though her flashback was sad essentially, it's still hard to feel for a character when their entire personality is based off pretending to be one character.

Say what you want about any other strawhat but they weren't as cringe or forced as Yamato is. & its not even just the manga but the anime is doing this as well with all the promotion. No other strawhat has gotten this treatment period. What exactly makes Yamato so special? A cool design, strong and big tits are nice, but we need more from her.

It's somewhat similar to how some people find zoro boring post timeskip... imo Yamato is a worse version of that.

Give her proper characterization before odens influence, after & slowly develop her then people will come around. Rushing her development probably won't hit for some while others will take it at face value.

I'm not trying to be mean or come at people who do like Yamato but as it stands, right now, Yamato is a hollow character with no real purpose & if she's going to be a strawhat then that needs to change.

She has identity crisis and delusional disorder, she thinks she's something she's not.
That right there alone makes her a dog shit character, the only way I even take Yamatrash seriously is if she drops the Oden nonsense

The thing is that, despite Yamato being the product of an abusive home environment, most shounen readers are to used to simple solutions like big speeches completely "healing" someone like that. One Piece itself has cases of this.
So they get mad with the "I'm Oden" shit. But they don't actually realize the sheer amount of people that actually reinforce it. Kaido, the samurais on the cave, everyone calling Yamato as "he".
So, 20 years of a self-defense mechanism against the abuse + the acknowledgement of everyone around her = this current behavior she has.
