War and Peace by Tolstoj, it may seem a brick and indeed it is more than 1000 pages but I suggest everyone to read it at least once in his/her life. What I liked about it is the powerful and rich portrait of different people, their life, vision on life and death, it is a masterpiece (maybe the masterpiece) of mondial literature that makes you think a lot.

It starts a bit low (at least for me) but it caches you in no time. Also maybe it is better to read it past your 20. If you are below I suggest (another thing entirely but I love it too :p) the lotr by Tolkien.

I've never tried reading a novel but this one sounds promising, Can you help me find a quick summary?

A quick summary as to have a preview of the story or somebody who is better than me at explaining why you should read it? :p imo it is better, and I pretty much always do this, read it without any kind of preview on the actual plot.

If you want to know the settings it is the story of family Rostov and its members plus some other (2 if I recall correctly) characters from the russian nobility, it is set in Russia at the start of the 1800, the story has 2 layers in this regard: there is the layer of the "war" or the storical one, indeed this is focused in Napoleon's russian campaign and we have every characters taken by it in different manners and then there is the "peace" one or the characters in their private lives with loves, desires, how the characters change in time (and how war and the circumastances of life make them change their view on the world). Anyway wait a moment, I will go look if a find a serious review because I think I'm not doing this masterpuece the justice it deserves XD

Edit: Here are some reviews I can agree on and that doesn't spoil it, plus they are pretty short and there is more than 1.

Y’all can see by my most recent status that I also didn’t know this thread exists...

Anyway, in no particular order:

Dark Matter - a guy finds a mysterious drug that lets him access alternate realities, which leads him into direct conflict with several parallel versions of himself

Will Not Attend - a fairly prolific comedy writer describes his life lived as a cynical curmudgeon (perfect for anyone who relies on sarcasm to communicate)

Your Heart is a Muscle the Size Of a Fist - a fictional telling of real events, follows the intertwining lives of several protesters during a political rally in Seattle in the late 1990s

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - an autistic savant tries to comprehend the confusing world around him while trying to solve the murder of his neighbor’s pet dog

Anything by Haruki Murakami, but specifically, the Wind-Up Bird Chronicle - just a straight mindfuck like all his work, but vivid and intriguing enough to keep you invested

The Art of Fielding - focuses on several college baseball players and the romantic relationships that threaten to ruin their seasons

Our Christmas tree is still in front of the bookcase, so I can’t see most of what I have, and will definitely be returning to this post once we’ve put it up.

just google "The Book Thief, read online" or something and there should be pdf versions. It's really interesting, the narrator of the book is "Death", sort of like a grim ripper. The book is pretty long though but totally worth it. I wish I could reread it without any memories of it, so I'm jealous that you can experience it brand new.

I mostly read self-help books, some of them being

  • Think and Grow rich
  • How to win friends and influence others
  • How to stop worrying and start living
  • Eat that frog
  • Rich dad and poor dad
  • The power of your subconscious mind
  • First things first

If it isnt fiction then I cannot be interested. Thats how I see to books:feelsokeman:

A few book series I used to read ( dont judge me...I was a tween).

- Goosebumps. A lot of them. A fricking thrived in this book series. I loved all of them. Especially the Horrorland sequels.:lumazed:

- Darren Shan "Zom B" books. Amazing series. However I stopped mid way through.

- I bought the "Dracula" novel, as a kid cause I loved Vampires. I was too dumb to understand it. So I read the graphic novel instead:sanmoji:

- Read a Dance with Dragons and a Feast of Crows

- Diary of a Wimpy Kid all books. Probably the only book series I acc finished:usoprice:

- How to Train your Dragon books were also orgasmic and amazing:namiriously:

Thats most I can remember now
