I watched Buffy when I was younger, admittedly seldom though, but I am familiar with it.

First Buffy own character : a woman protagonist, main one and without any concurrence. It was still really rare at that time.

And switching back the trope of the young blonde afraid of monsters to one kicking everyone’s butt.

About sexual preference : Willow and Tara is one of the first gay couple on TV Show who had a totally casual relationship. And they have maybe one of the first lesbian kiss on screen.

The writing of the show : lots of expression from the show stayed in the overall langage. Also with X files it is one of the first show of that type who was novelized : episodes of the week but also overall plot through the season, season bad guy etc.

Awesome stand alone episode : like the episode where no one talked or the musical episode (maybe one of the best musical episode and one of the first one).

Buffy is still a great show even today and didn’t grow that old. It’s cult x10.

You won’t see many teenage show at that time talking about sex (Buffy/Angel first time or Spike/Buffy moments), portraying the path into adulthood that way. Lots of great characters, episodes, humor etc etc.
