That's a weak reason. First of all, there's no reason to assume fake claims are even given in the first place. Claiming Mellow is perfectly safe since if another player in this game is Mellow, they're unlikely to counter claim because they have a wincon to fulfill. He did it explicitly after I identified Mellow as a *potentially* town indie, too. He has not given any more details about his claim, or his role, he reeks to high heaven.

Just fyi I'm probably coming for you next, this is either TMI on your part and performative so you can set up other mislynches or you're a buddy and trying to save him. That you would go out of your way to defend him when he has not earned the benefit of the doubt whatsoever stinks. You even questioned his apparent wincon yourself so not sure how you arrived at the conclusion he's telling the truth so quickly.

i can barely remember the names of 8~9 characters in the show, including the 3 bad ones
not much room for fake claims

mellow is 99.99% not a fake claim and ultra u look awful with this push unless ur cc'ing mellow, which you should always do to help catch scum or you will be labeled anti town

Nobody is going to counter claim Mellow here, because presuming he's indie he has a wincon to fulfill and is not concerned with correcting an outted scum.

Also, what do you mean *if* Light/Ryuk/Misa is the scum faction? I'm assuming this is your presumption, because if it isn't, your defense of him makes absolutely no sense. You better be certain about this.

You're using motivated reasoning and the "it can't possibly be a fake claim" to shore up a poor defense of him. You are not considering his play, nor the wrongful assumptions you might be making here, such as the fact that he might not be given a fake claim to begin with, so this could be his best bet.
