Yh I agree....but then again its literally impossible to not compare. You have an idea of how the characters are, and if they messed them up I would be pissed.
My opinion: This will be of course a disaster, so bad that even imagining makes me sad.
I have absolutely no expectations at all, so no matter how bad they make it i can't be more disappointed than i already am (yes,before the series even started).
But hey i'm the guy that loves the anime even when the majority of people hate it, i'm always positive when it comes to One Piece, so even knowing that it's hopeless i will try and keep optimistic about it and try to see it in a positive way the best i can.
Anyway, i saw a guy on Reddit comment about how far the story will progress on season 1 and i liked that, it was something like this:
Season 1 - East Blue Saga

Well this is either going to be an amazing show or an absolute disaster.
Good thing is that OP really can't lose. If it's a disaster, it will be cancelled after one or two seasons, quickly disappearing in everyones memories and only being a footnote while talking about OP.
If it's a success, it could also bring a ton of new fans (especially from America) to actually start reading the manga.

Nami is already lesbian, Usopp is already black, and Sanji has already dived into that territory before. Netflix doesn't even have to force anything.
