Friction was always a bs explanation

It didn't explain why sanji could turn off diable jambe at will or keep it as long as he wanted without even getting burned by it

My guess is

Sanji's power just blooms over time

At first he couldn't create fire but had some control over it (kinda like Pyro from the x-men) so he had to use friction

Then he got stronger and learned to just burst into flammes on top of controlling fire


I don't think it's related to the modifications, given how he had it before awakening his genes

I mean wanze did it with his skates before sanji used diable jambe.

Oda said he wasn't burned because his passion burns hotter. Seems like the best answer we'll get from Loda tbh imo

This all ties back into sanjis introduction. He fought pearl who was essentially using a fodder tier version of hell memories.

He talks about how a cook can't be afraid of flames. I always thought he'd get a flame power up because of that

It is downplayed because Oda doesn't give him serious fights. No matter how you flip this fight, for the most part, it was just Sanji kicking and kicking and kicking until Queen was done.

The moments where Queen had "free hits in" were majorly Sanji's existential crisis not even Queen's feats.

Sanji will have a hard time being accepted in terms of power scaling by the other side of the fence until he beats someone who is a big challenge to him.

I'd agree but tbh those fights don't happen often.

Mr 2 was a mid diff till he changed into nami and sanji took hella damage. Then turned high diff

Jabra was a mid diff while injured

Queen gets mid diffed after power up

Only time I can really think of is vs Gin and pearl and vs Gin he was nerfed heavy

When we do see him clash with people who'd give him a challenge he's usually nerfed in some way shape or form.

I'm thinking Lodas saving sanjis extreme diff fights for eos
