This is one of the key few battles to become Pirate King, Luffy is relishing the blooming that is happening and has 100% confidence he will beat kaido.
The fight with Lucci was against an emotionless assassin, and Croccodile was Luffy's first difficult fight so he didn't have the room and mental fortitude he does now, Roger would laugh against his enemies too.

It’s not the problem, it removes all the tension. Just look at Crocodile fight or Lucci, the mood wasn’t the same at all. It was all : I’ll break your skull asshole.

I also highly doubt they’d win against King or Marco.

But they’re definitely stronger than Veterans.
