No, in fact I think he just became much more of a dangerous, captivating villain. Now we know he's not prideful enough let a key opportunity pass by. Man, if Luffy wasn't screwed before...
Also I dont really get why anyone's surprised at the underhanded tactic
Hello...
I already came to terms with him being a notch below WB and Roger, but yes, 970 made him fall even further. I don’t see him distinctively special out of all top tiers anymore. I can easily see Akainu, Shanks, Mihawk, Dragon and plenty of other top tiers beating him now. Oden fought him at least evenly so I don’t see why not.
Can't wait till Luffy breaks his one-shot-mace And imagine Kaidou gives the old hag the bonk for interfering with his fight in the next chapter. I think that will redeem his image
Oden was only superior to his Dragon form , with Base Kaido it's debatable , so he still have Hybrid to save face .
but i think it's funny that One Piece people are betting him 1 on 1 , yet he beat his strongest opponent with a fodder Beast Pirate + fake hostage ( though Wano was and still is isolated so they must not know )
i think people are betting him 1 on 1 due to him being unkillable all these years despite having through over 100 tortures etc.
anyway for me if Zoro manages to cut him in Dragon/Hybrid ( doesn't matter if surprise attack or not ) then i'll rank Mihawk higher than him .
if Mihawk is higher than him then i'll also rank Dragon and Akainu above him
Not really, we know he got slashed, we know he was weaker back then. We also got shown that Oden was a beast of a man that was praised by roger and wb. The only thing people seem really miffed about is the momo situation but then again, context always matters. We dont know that it was kaidos idea or orochi/the old lady so until then its inconclusive. Now i see some here saying that well why did kaido attack him? Its a war, its not 1vs1 honorable combat. People, especially pirates, are gonna take every advantage they can get to win as fast and as efficiently as possible. Ill direct you to Admiral aokiji saying that an instant of carelessness will cost you your life and or defeat. And it happened as was shown with aokiji and kizaru. Heck even whitebeard snuck on akainu and hit him with an enraged attack. A sneak attack which didnt manage to put him down mind you, whereas kaidos on oden did. The whole situation clearly portrayed Oden as a strong fighter and kaido too, since they seem to have been fighting for a while up until kaido got slashed and then fell down. Overall, i say this chapter should hype up Oden instead of dehyping kaido. After all, nothing that happened there we didnt know already.
No because my hype for him wasn't the over the top hype that a lot of the fan base had for kaido, alot of fans him being strongest character but I had him in top 5 and change my opinion on kaido hasn't changed by 970 and it was 20 years ago his most likely stronger now.

So wait if zoro manages to injure any top tier then that top tier is automatically bellow mihawk? What kinda distorted reasoning is that? Everyone knew mihawk could hurt kaido, that doesnt mean he could win.
No, because Kaido wasn't the strongest back then. He was Yonko level for sure, but that's not enough to be #1. Imo, he only improved by 10-15% in the past 20 years, but that 10-15% is how much I think he's stronger compared to other Yonkos currently.
This "Hybrid" nonsense is quite honestly the dumbest thing going around in this community. Oda is not showing hybrid, simply because he wants to have some surprises for the end.
It has absolutely nothing to do with power scaling. Kaido's durability is the same in dragon form as in hybrid.

How is him being injured by a top tier puts him so down in your reasoning? Did you think that no top tier could hurt him? When was that ever stated. Just because he gets injured doesnt mean he wont win in the end. Being the strongest doesnt mean you low diff people, you just win. The fights are still gonna be extreme diff regardless. Unless you think prime WB and Roger mid diff the current top tiers, which would be the most ridiculous thing ive ever read. And this was 20 years ago mind you, the guy got a good deal stronger.
I wouldn’t say it ruined him but I don’t think he’s a strong as I used to anymore. Prior to 970, what Kaidou had going for him (for me at least) was the notion that he supposedly couldn’t be hurt via normal means & the fact that he was hyped up to be unbeatable - ‘In a one v one always bet on Kaidou’, ‘no one could kill him’ etc (akin to Raid Boss you need a special item you need to kill him with).
In 970, however it was established that he can be hurt via regular means simply if u’re strong enough. Oden also had him on the ropes and he needed the old hag to come bail him out, so he doesn’t really come across as unbeatable or inkillable anymore (if he’s got hostages tho, that’s another issue lolz). Atm he just seems like your regular strong top tier to me.
No matter how small it is, of course it's still yes. Saying no imo is being denial and lying to yourself.
Yep reasons such as "this was Kaido from 20 years ago", "no Hybrid form yet", "Kaido still ended up winning after clubbing him" still work.
But I never thought he would use hostage. If anything, I expected that Oden would go very all out and used all his strengh and haki to cause that scar, then collapsed from exhaustion afterwards. But it didn't happen and Oden never went that all out.

To add more injury, I don't think the non dying fire that set the forest ablaze was the work of Kaido's borobreath.
When he shot Borobreath to Oden's grave and Sanji's team, iirc the fire just died, and there is no mention of on going fire that won't die.
The non dying fire is work of King the Wildfire, as shown in last chapter he also ignited some fire when fighting the scabbards.
