I mean Oden can still die from this though. Armament haki or endurance are good for combat situations sure but it doesn't help when you get tossed into a boiling cauldron for three days of constant boiling.
First of all you don't get fed any food. Second you don't rest. Third it's hard to breath with the oil fumes everywhere. Oden would have to be like Actually immortal to survive something like this.
Of course we know Oden has the haki and endurance to tank way tougher things like in combat but that's in combat. It's not the same as this

Now I'm thinking Oden survived 
The 100 hostages thing was his plan FIVE YEARS before. So we know Kaido uses hostages to deal with Oden five years ago.
You don't think this makes it very likely that he would use hostages five years later? Yet we know now that's something he actually plans to do when he reaalises he's at a disadvantage
