It is unlikely that the results have changed much, it will not be easy for both of them to catch up with Nami. Let them compete for 3rd place.

Not only does he have that connection to the ancient kingdom but his main goal is to find out the true history and meaning of the initial "D." and how else is he gonna do that? He won't make it to Raftel by himself
