Those movies make me appreciate the visuals animated films can achieve. The ending to Princess Mononoke is breathtaking.
Princess Mononoke visuals are amazing. The way they animated the spirits, the translucent, all-consuming spirit of destruction in particular.
Never had I seen something like this before.

Princess Mononoke left a mark on me in particular because the first time I watched it was when I was 12. So I was able to actually comprehend the movie.

The landscapes, while a simple touch, are also amazing, and pair well with the film's soft colors. The spirits are incredibly inventive, too. The Spirit of The Forest gave me nightmares. I was a stupid little girl when I first saw it, so I only remembered how scary it was for a time and held off rewatching at first.

The forest scenes are some of the most beautiful scenery ever to hit animation

The only gripe I have with Princess Mononoke is that it propagates a separation of human and nature.
This is an oldfashioned approach.

Sure, Miyazaki wrote this film under the impression of his personal experience with the fast paced urbanization of Japan in his time.

But in reality, there can be no separation between humans and nature.

I also dislike the depiction of indigenous people as a 'dying race'. That's bull. They're not dead.
