Because it's not just about Luffy beating Kaido with Gear 4. Since 1037, he's been teasing Luffy's awakening. The problem is, Luffy doesn't know his awakening. This is likely a means to it and Kaido's flashback.

I'm right there with you on that, the time to make this parallel and knocking down Luffy would've been any of the previous time he got knocked down, I'm hoping he powers through to show Kaido it won't play out like it did with Oden or somehow the fight gets taken to the rest of the crew.

yes but at this point we don't know how one will awaken df right? . Oda making us see how one can awaken df through luffy and how one can turn blade into black blade through zoro .since these two are the main ones. Oda kept us in dark regarding this one.
