General & Others How do you feel about the fact that Wano arc ended up not being Zoro's arc?

Oda did a good job focusing on Zoro throughout Wano because he keeps Zoro’s core character consistent.

One of my favorite moments was when Zoro unlocks advCoC. Throughout his fight with King, he doesn’t understand what Enma wants from him. A master swordsman needs to be one with his swords, yet Zoro was actually hesitant to do just that. Also, Zoro unlocking advCoC
goes beyond any power level discussions. It was actually growth for Zoro because the chapter implied that Zoro didn’t see himself as a king. It was great to see him remember Kuina as well as reiterate his promise to Kuina and Luffy that he would be the WSS.

I hate it, and I hated that WCI wasn't sanji's arc either. Wanking these stupid side characters I couldn't give 2 shits about doesnt matter at all to me.
Whole Cake Island wasn't about Sanji as a fighter, but the plot of the arc clearly revolved around him.
To begin with, it was only because of Sanji that Luffy went there, the main event of the arc was Sanji's wedding with Pudding, Sanji's whole family appeared in the story, we got a lot of details about his childhood with the flashbacks, and he faced very significant situations in which new layers of his personality were exhibited.

Zoro, on the other hand, did shine as a fighter in Wano, but the plot of the arc itself did not revolve around him; He was just a fighter in the Alliance among others, and he only had a very small flashback without much relevant information.

That's not to say he didn't have his moments that weren't related to fighting; His interactions with Hiyori, that laughing man who died, and that girl who began to laugh during the execution making Zoro angry were certainly something. But none of it was significant enough to show new layers of Zoro's personality; He is still the stoic Buddhist monk who is loyal to Luffy and has a rivalry with Sanji.

He got stronger with Enma, and unlocked Conqueror Haki, yes, but these are just power-ups, among many others he had throughout the series.
So his change in the arc has been just a matter of extent, and not of substance.
In terms of character development, Zoro's power-up was nothing compared to Sanji having a internal struggle considering whether or not it would be worth it becoming stronger with the cost of losing part of his emotions, which ended with him breaking what had been his last power-up, and being forced to accept the change made in his body precisely by the technology made by his father who he hates.

Zfans the only one who say its his own arc, :optimistic: but oda never claim wano as his arc, which he did with sanji when he made WCI, a mere Sidekick doesnt deserve his own arc. did you see robin having his own movie other than batman? no/

well zoro isn't done oda still has him in plot relevant things and whether or not this is his arc or not honestly depends on zkk i get that many people like to say oh wci was sanjis arc oda told us but he did not do the same for zoro in wano but thats not relevant imo in sanjis arc he had the best feat of stopping bm even if that was briefly via the wedding cake if oda told us straight up that wano would be zoros arc many would suspect him to do something massive so oda chose to say nothing at all but he has layed out a lot of evidence in the manga

tldr: be patient the arc isnt over and zoro is still involved in it even half dead or dead pick ur poison

The thing I don’t like is Zoro wasn’t really challenged in his character : no development, no questions, no real struggle except for his fight.

In the past Zoro has great moments : zoro taking Luffy pain or kneeling in front of Mihawk. Those are great character moments and not power level related.

Wano didn’t change Zoro, I felt no connection between Zoro and Wano. Yeah Oda gave hints : the shimotsuki thing, the sunnachi, the geezer in his village etc etc. But nothing deep. Nothing was explored.

We can hâte Sanji character dev during WCI but at least he was mentally challenged, his whole character moved from one point to on other.
the thing is that zoro isn't a complex character like sanji , his character is related to his strength , his drive for his ambition and his willpower . even if u think abt it , both the nothing happened scene and mihawk scene related to him standing up for luffy while disregarding his ambition . but the latest chapter with king showed him mentioning his dream again and the promise he made to luffy about the wss . it was a call back to his ambition and promise , zoro is alrdy a complete character , we will prob get more lore about his backstory than just the swordsmith thing tho and yeah wano isnt over , we still have the ryuma parallel thing going on .

No I'm not satisfied.

Zoro as a character should be about more than just powerscaling and combat feats.

It's really sad that Zoro fans have satisfied themselves with Zoro being strong even if his character hasn't grown all that much.

That said, I do still have some hope for Zoro to get some tangible character development in the remainder of this arc.

I'm not satisfied for now because the arc is still missing ZKK but I'm fairly confident that to come to fruition soon enough
