I understand that this part of Kaido is a bit weird, but i interpreted it as him really enjoying this fight, he always looks dead serious / angry when he's sober while now he seems really happy and enjoying the moment even if everything is going to sh** ( calamities lost, onigashima is fucked ) like he's been waiting this moment for so long and he knows something we don't, the thing i agree with though is the complete lack of context / background around him, so for many he just a punching machine and nothing more which makes this long wait hard to tollerate
Aye, that would make more sense that he's drunk in more ways than one ofc on the thrill of an exciting equal fight in such a long time. In love with the fight itself instead, the thrill.
Absolutely, Oda is really milking Kaido's motives, backstory and what not because he revealed Rocks and thus Kaido's connection to him. We had Big Mom's backstory at WCI WAY sooner than this and it paid off but here we are waiting since Dressrosa ended and he appeared and around 150 chapters into Wano almost and still not idea why he is the way he is and what makes him tick, just what traumatised him so badly and made him so cynical, cold, untrusting and such? Especially since he hates humans so much too and claims oni superiority over them?
I thought Acnologia from FT would be like this too ironically enough but it was Irene/Eileen who served more of that kind of role and I think Zeref?
I can't really remember but I've been thinking about Kaido so much (ayo) since he appeared and like Doflamingo, Law, Kidd, BM, Senor Pink, Shanks, Mihawk etc I find him one of Oda's most fascinating characters and this constant blue balling over him for literal years and well over a hundred chapters now is completely exhausting. We don't even know who Yamato's mother is, what happened to her but most likely dead since its Oda and I'm assuming she is Kaido's actual daughter too ofc and not adopted, as I suspected she might be before.
The drunken mood swings and styles are great and interesting, a very unique take on drunken fist style and me and a friend suspected Shanks of having this funnily enough. More fitting for Kaido given he's blatantly influenced by Shuten Douji too though ofc.
Most of all I'm just especially frustrated at seeing Luffy lose yet again, it's like Oda is insulting us and making fun of Luffy too even. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot win and Kaido feeling more like a Soulsbourne type game boss honestly.
Considering how swiftfully BM was defeated and dealt with, its even more insulting imo too.
I'm on a break from OP now ofc but I hope for Luffy's sake he is fine or recovers quickly next chapter somehow and this godforsaken arc isn't dragged or "stretched" out even further than it already has been.
I will check back up on OP after some months and see how it's doing, if Wano is still going god forbid or if it's finally over as it should be. Even if I wait until August, I worked it out at a maximum 18 chapters at absolutely most, maybe slightly less so that's not a lot either ofc but hopefully the plot will have moved on drastically by then somehow. My typical luck will be that Wano will end whilst I'm avoiding OP and we get all the truly hype stuff, the outside Wano plots and characters and whats happened and going on in the world that we've been waiting years for Oda to elaborate on. I mean "Shanks will make his move in 2021" and we'll find out what happened to Boa, Sabo and Vivi in 2020" especially but also the status of the now ex-Warlords generally ofc.
People can say Oda was delayed by COVID but he's blatantly dragging the storyline too, openly admitting the rooftop fight wasn't planned and making Luffy run for 10 chapters just to get there. I heard he made Luffy stay in the giant snake at Skypeia for 20 chapters too, I don't remember it being that long but if it was, JFC, that's all I can say. I know someone told me he spent maybe that amount of time in concrete at Arlong Park or a bit less?
This BS is bad enough without Oda making us trapped in a almost 150 page arc that may have just gotten another second wind to keep it going and drag it out even more. I swear if Morj is actually right about Wano being 200+ chapters and the raid failing after all after all this damn time, I'll completely loathe his entire existence for eternity unironically.
I do think Kaido is a really cool character though, he's grown on me after some hiccups, some issues and it makes me all the more frustrated that he's still such an enigma. Feels like a parallel with Zoro and Sanji, King until Zoro fought him and I guess conversely Queen who got loads of screentime by comparison too.
I think Morj said Kaido will be one of the best villains in OP or the best in time, making a video about it. If not him, someone else did definitely 100% and I think this will be true once Oda does get around to it eventually.
This arc wouldn't be so frustrating if it wasn't so damn long and dragged out, I never thought my most anticipated, dreamt of arc would become my most hated but here we are.
Apologies for the essay haha.
Hope you feel better. Whatever the reason, lifes too short to spend time on things that doesn’t make you happy.
Thank you very much, that is very true and I'm slowly learning to accept that too as difficult as that can be.
