In her mind Oden just means freedom. Sorry to spoil you but that's classic Oda. It's like Usopp telling lies or Nami stealing or chopper being shy, It's just an annoying trait that is an allegory for a deeper meaning. It's the same as people who hated Usopp only to later love him and hope is every panel. You will grow to love Yamato and she'll do adorable stuff like accidentally introduce herself as Oden as she smashes Marines.

Most don't realize this which is why they "hate" Yamato, when they fail to understand the character.

Yeah, Yamato is just like some athlete who are trying to be a wannabes of their favorite athletes to the point of mimicking their styles or whatsoever most of the time and they're often misunderstood, it's just that their favorite athletes are their definition of greatness and that they want to become great as well...
