He’s really not? One piece has always followed this style. And although at times Oda has changed with the times, it’s always had an ingrained cartoonish nature to it. And you do remember G4 turning doffy into a ragdoll right? Or Tankman one shotting a commander?

Gear 5 is the best power Luffys gotten in the series because it feels like Luffy. Boundman and Snakeman felt too limited for Luffy, he wasn’t able to do the dumb shit he did pre timeskip with those forms. But gear 5 he has full opportunity. This air of silliness is what the series has been missing since the timeskip. And I’m glad Odas going back to his roots with it.

I don't remember Doffy's eyes popping out tho? Don't get me wrong, Luffy using Arlong's teeth, Gomu Gomu baka and ufo were all comedic moments I enjoyed but at the end of the day all those were MOMENTS. What's happening now is a comedy scene, and comedy is used rather generously here.

I like gags even more than constipation faces. Even in fights gags and funny faces and what not are ok. I find them perfect in One Piece.
This just isn't a gag. It is a complete turnaround in making the entire fight an entire joke. It's not funny, it's demential and that makes it cringe.
Plus Gear 5 look having this rounded idiotic face like it's a child's drawing.

Not even my 10 yrs old nephew would find this funny.
As I already said, forcefully flapping eyes out at every panel doesn't make something funny.
