Oda has long stated that Haki drawbacks are holding Luffy back. Awakening's main thing, is that his rubber strengthens, so he can literally fight without even using Haki.

One Piece is literally one of the most consistent series out there when it comes to themes and the content it puts on display. It has not changed the readers expectstions in 25 years. Stop expecting every arc to be those 5 dark chapters in Marineford. You may get something like it by the EoS, but stop expecting this nonsense at any point in the story

The final confrontation, or "fight" if you will, was always the most important, and those where NEVER goofy, Luffy NEVER beat a villain in a goofy way. But right now he is facing the strongest enemy he has ever faced, and he is turning both himself and the villain into cartoons.
