Character Discussion Who is better written? Charlotte Katakuri or Jinbe Knight of the Sea

Felt like this was a good comparison with Jinbe being a side character until about 60 chapters ago. If you had to rate how well and consistent both characters are written, who do you think is better? Who do you think is more unique? Which do you like more?

Jinbe.

Katakuri's characterisation is atrocious. And whilst Jinbe is boring af, he isnt badly written.

Jinbe by far.
His story is rooted in deep themes such as racism and prejudice,while Kata's story is ''someone was mean to my sister'' the only choice here is jinbe.

Jimbo is boring as hell but his story, motivations, experiences etc are interesting and consistent.

Kata has better powers, more style, badass etc but writing wise not that interesting

Oda made a bad decision including Jimbe in the SH because he doesn’t fit but writing wise he is still better than Kata

So I prefer Kata but Jimbe is better overall

Katakuri had potential. This dumb respect/pride thing ruined him for me. I actually liked how he cared about his family and his people. Yet he goes out killing innocent chefs, shouting at his little sister that only wanted to help, and starts supporting the criminal that destroyed his country and beat up his family. Like how can you go supporting the main villain of your own story. Cause thats what Luffy was to Katakuri at the start. Then Oda threw the whole "he hates BM" hint at the end. Oda my dude that is not enough.


Katakuri's character is just not realistic. And I think Oda really wanted us to like Katakuri, so thats why he made him like an ally at the end. But its just plain retarded writing. Stop ruining characters and making them do stuff that contridicts how you previously written them. Please.


I still remember the day when the spoilers released of the chap where Katakuri stabbed himself. I was in complete disbelief and protected Katakuri throughout. Saying it was fake spoilers and what not. Until I saw the pictures and saw the idiot stab himself. Till then I was completely done with his idiotic character.

The Invincible Charlotte Katakuri is getting absolutely slaughtered in here. Reminds me of the time I made a similar thread to this one with Doffy and the Invincible Charlotte Katakuri. The Invincible Charlotte Katakuri got rekt. Time for a Doffy vs Jimbei character thread. 👀


While the Invincible Charlotte Katakuri far exceeds Jimbei in terms of power, powers and design, here Imo he falls flat and the fat fish takes the W.

Jinbei, not even close. In terms of who is "cooler" and has more interesting fighting techniques than yea, Katakuri, but in terms of writing and how central that character is to the overall important plots points of One Piece, it is definitely Jinbei. Jinbei was fire during Impel Down, Marine Ford and FMI.

Jinbe's character got way more deepth but that doesn't implicate he is better.

Overall I feel like Katakuri's character wasn't handled too well, we barely know something in detail about him
