More and More I'm convinced that Kaido already awakened when he went from a fish to a dragon but he hasn't shown his trump card yet.

I think we would have seen a silhouette of him awakening at the end of the chapter if he had a transformation awakening like Luffy

I think it works not like that because marco with his phoenix fruit .bird bird mythical modell phoenix .
So by that logic he should have been a normal bird before if only awakening grants him the phoenix part of it.

Like a pigeon

He was shown as a young pirate in odens flashback already using the phoenix powers .

I think Kaido's fruit has to originally come from a fish otherwise there is no reason for him to have any relation to the sea or the claim that he is the strongest in it

This makes zero sense his model is azure dragon, it's like saying Lucci was a cat and awakened to a Leopard, Sengoku was a human and awakened to a buddha etc.

It looks like it failed because it didn't have a mind of its own. Most interesting thing we've learned recently is that Zoans fruit have minds of their own.

Kaido originally being a fish or having something to do with a fish makes sense because of the claim that he is the strongest in the sea as well

The fish (koi carp ) that climbed a waterfall and evolved into a dragon is an mythical creature.
And the bird that died and rised from the ashes to become a phoenix also a mythical refrence .
