It first justifies why Florian Triangle was considered a cursed place even before Moria arrived with Thriller Bark. Secondly, it plays with naval legends and the mythical figure of the Umibozu; the shadows whole purpose is to emphasize that oceans are mysterious places, and therefore explaining them would take away what made them interesting in the first place.

If you explained them as giant natural pillars you'd be instantly taking the mystery from them, and therefore what made them interesting in the first place. Giant natural pillars have no romance behind them; unknown shadows do.

It's also a homage to an old horror trope of "heroes think they're safe & have vanquished evil, only to find the true evil yet still lurks.". You're set up to believe that moria is the nature of the disappearances/deaths, but upon seeing the shadows you reflect & realize the m.o/myths don't match up w what Moria was doing so there is something far worse out there.

its already implied to have a limit and each gear has a limit and all awakenings have been expressed to have limits. if oda didn't put a hard limit on G5 like (it sucks luffys entire life force over time) then every fight would be won by just G5 and nothing else, there would be no reason for anyone else to fight if luffy can just slingshot every enemy into the sky

and he still has at least 4-5 major arcs (which could easily be another 500 chapters) to get to those fights. it won't become a main stay ability like him flexing G4, he will adopt effects from G5 into g1-4 and g5 will only come out at the turning point of a fight. and even then he might have specific attacks by the time we see it again

it would be stupid at this point for luffy to struggle against no named people.
luffy doesn't care if he drains is life force and there would be no tension if luffy is struggling in g2/g3 when we know he has a stronger form

Akainu is funnily much more of a good guy than way more than half of the existing top and high tiers in the verse.
