Oda has treated it incredibly poorly.

Marineford - Mihawk was portrayed below the admirals

Place in the World - Mihawks title has been basically irrelevant to the world in fact being a warlord was more significant to the world than being WSS.

Impact on other characters - Have we really ever met anyone who cared about the title outside of Zoro? Hell Oda didn’t even put it in Mihawks title box in his reintroduction

Doesn't help that we don't know others that strive for the title other than zoro.
We don't have much information about it and when something comes up, people just deny it under stupid arguments. I'm writing a review on Mihawk and when it's ready I can tag you if you're interested.

Personally I think the construction was very good, the more time passes, the higher it gets, at first we compared him with Crocodile, a shichibukai, recently Zoro scarred the strongest creature in the world and when we notice he is still far from manage to defeat Mihawk his power becomes even more mysterious.

When Newgate talks about Shanks, he remembers Mihawk, even Shanks points out that Mihawk was able to scarred him which Mihawk doesn't. When talking about Shanks people remember MIhawk, when talking about Mihawk people don't remember Shanks.

Vivre Card and databook have brought us interesting statements, but people simply choose to ignore them. No discussion can take place if they don't come from the same base.

The following are some.

大海賊時代以前より頭角を現し、今や名実共に「世界一」の座に君臨し続ける、稀代の大剣豪。
He made a name for himself before the Great Pirate Age Now he continues to reign from his place as the Best in the World both in name and reality He's an extremely rare ( amazing ) swordmaster.

剣を業とする全ての者が畏れる"鷹の目"は、かつて刃を交えた"赤髪"を凌ぐ使い手の到来を、未来に見据えている・・・!!
Every swordman fears "Hawk-Eye." He looks forward to the arrival of a swordman who can surpass his rival "Red Hair," with whom he crossed blades in the past.

[...]

History
- Before 24: 大航海時代の幕開けを見る
He saw the beginning of the Great Pirate Age.

- Before ??: 剣の腕を巡り"赤髪"と鎬を削る
He competes ruthlessly with "Red Hair" in skill of swordsmanship.

- Before ??:"王下七武海"に加入
He joins "Ouka Shichibukai"

Kinda bad so far.

I’m confident that Oda’s going to go full Shanks/Mihawk wank and make the two of them the mid gen Roger and Whitebeard, so I’m not concerned about the future, but it’s definitely something Oda’s dropped the ball on so far. Marineford seemed like he needed Mihawk there for the story to make sense but didn’t want him to actually do anything.

But for the future I expect him to make up with it and give Mihawk his due credit. I think he’s a character that Oda has simply been saving for endgame. I could certainly have done with some more relevance to him, but Zoro walking out of Wano an aCoC user who even before that was scarring Yonko’s and tanking the strongest attack in the series gives me plenty of reason to be optimistic about Mihawk going forward.

Wouldn't blackbeard be the whitebeard parallel to shanks's roger
  1. Both apprentices at the same time on roger and newgates crews
  2. Shanks inherented rogers hat and possibly more. Teach took his fruit and his name kinda
  3. Both recently became yonko
  4. Their crews seem to kinda parallel eachother like beckmann and shiryu. Even kuzan and mihawk potentially
  5. The 2 pirates with the most potential from their generation

Thats easier said than done
Even if you automatically knew where they all were
Sneaking into zou, wano, and tottoland and wherever the last one is at then expecting no one to notice at all isn't happening for 99.9999% of people
the manga panel already stated how you can be a pirate king
just like the guy who made this thread said, we take thing literally here

It is been treated better than WSM and WSC imo.

1. It's been a relevant title since the first time the manga has shown it is Zoro's dream.

2. None of the SHP cares about WSM/WSC titles.

3. WSM/WSC titles have only become relevant on their own arcs.

4. The World's Strongest Swordsman title holder is virtually untouched, unscathed, and unscarred. Also is one of the only two Black Blade forger in the entire manga, which is one of the rarest if not the rarest feat in One Piece history.

5. A Yonko Commander couldn't even touch the WSS title holder wherein, in comparison, a Yonko commander level in Killer made the WSC scream in pain and a veteran level in Squard was able to pierce the body of the WSM.

No, despite it not making much sense Blackbeard is part of Luffy’s generation, not Shanks.

The only reason the Worst Gen exists is to group Luffy and Blackbeard together. Otherwise people would still be talking about the Supernovas.

Blackbeard is apart of both
He only become a big name recently around the same time as the other nova but his been a pirate around just about as long if not longer than people like shanks, buggy, marco, neko, kata, king, doflamingo, crocodile, etc

Him being a rival to luffy doesn't mean hes not one to shanks

Yeah but people have made this headcannon that Shanks and Mihawk are mid gen Rogers/Whitebeard when it’s the exact opposite imagine roger or Wb getting replaced by ssg

Pretty bad. For over 1040 chapters:
-Zoro hasn't fought a single person who's interested in the title
-there hasn't been a single person aside from Zoro and Kuina, a flashback character, who's been interested in the title. Ryuma has been dead for 400 years
-we have no information of any lasting impact Mihawk caused
-in the land of samurai where we tons of sowrdsmanship info, Mihawk is completely irrelevant in that arc. The WSS title was brought up once during the King fight
-weapons grades has been irrelevant since their introduction in chapter 97.

The title being Zoro's dream is the only thing sustaining the title.

I think it’s fine, people look at it like it’s some prize you win at the end of some competition, the most common statement I see is “how come no one else is going for it”. To me it’s just a way for Oda to label a specific target for Zoro’s personal goal, he wants to be the strongest of all sword fighters so let’s have him go after the guy that is at least regarded as the best based on whatever crazy feats he’s pulled off to make people go “yeah he’s definitely the best around”. Just like any title in one piece there’s no comity measuring people’s individual strengths in a competition, the world perceives you as the strongest based on things you have done to leave an impression big enough to spread around the world. For Mihawk specifically sure I would like to know all the things he has done to make the world view him as such but I believe Oda just isn’t ready to show us yet. Just seeing Zoro grow and do crazier things for him to still feel like he’s not ready for Mihawk is enough for now, at least other characters in the story don’t question or mock Mihawk’s ability.

How well do you think he's treated the title so far?

If we 100% believe each title but take them very literally

Newgate - Worlds strongest man - if we take it literally you could technically look at it only including just men and not women and it you want to limit it even more only human men.
At the same time based on everything else we know and been told wb was also considered the strongest pirate alive and put a pedestal above by his fellow emperors and even the wg. Man really was the stongest for a time

Kaido - Worlds strongest creature - taking it extremely literal it could either mean the strongest creature excluding or including humans depending on whether were considered so or not
At the same time based on what we know he is also just looked at as the current strongest pirate and in general person alive right now by just about everyone

Side note if not luffy after wano teach will definitely get one of those titles soon
mihawk - worlds strongest swordsmen - literally anyone who can use a sword or is skilled in using a sword. Tho how skilled you need to be also doesn't matter cause random fodder marine #365 from west blue can be considered just as much a swordsman as mihawk.
In story we know just because someone carries a sword, is able to overwhelm other swordsman with his sword skill, and can coat it in haki it doesn't mean they're actually a swordsman. What actually makes someone a swordsman? At this point whether or not oda decides so or not.

So out off all the titles oda unintentionally or not definitely shat on mihawks the most in comparison to the other 2. Just based on the fact their even can be an argument on who counts or not as potential competition for the title.
Doesn't help that we don't know others that strive for the title other than zoro. While whitebeard and kaidos titles are basically synonymous with just mean the strongest in general and most people obviously want that to be them
It should be the most serious/badass/cool title, and one of the strongest titles as well. Oda won't treat Mihawk badly since he's Zoro's end boss.
