Oda deliberately does that competitiveness between Shanks and Mihawk fandom tho? One is WSS and one is Emperor / Great Pirate but with using a sword as a weapon, while theres haki and hype and Zoro-King interaction (swordsmen =/= using every possible power like elements or non-standard sword technique to win) to create vagueness etc
Title is too vague when it really shouldn’t be and Mihawk’s on panel feats have been a bit too underwhelming to justify him being the undisputed strongest with a sword in the verse.
Not sure what Oda was smoking when he had fcking Vista fight Mihawk to a draw on MF & Diamond Jozu completely cancel out his slash aimed at WB. Against Vista, Oda should’ve shown that Mihawk was the superior swordsman even if the fight was a brief one & against Jozu, Oda should’ve had Mihawk cut Jozu even if it wasn’t fatal to show that there is nothing the WSS can’t cut. Yet he decided to hype these characters up at Mihawk’s expense 🤦🏾♂️ & the best feat we got from him in the whole war was slicing an iceberg 💀, a feat that people like Zoro fresh out the ts & a young Oden can replicate. I mean switch out Mihawk with any of the Yonko on MF & they body Vista or Jozu. Hell Akainu got superior portrayal against all of WB’s commanders in the same damn war, Aokiji took Jozu’s arm, & even fcking Doffy had a better showing against Jozu.
Then you fast-forward to Wano with an incompetent Yonko like Linlin bodying Queen & Kaido bodying Luffy fresh out his fight with Katakuri & Mihawk’s feats look even worse.
Lastly to add salt to injury, Mihawk is no longer a Shichibukai hence not really an antagonist for Zoro anymore 🤦🏾♂️.
A lot of boated hype surrounding him & that title but very little to justify it (i.e used to be Shanks rival in their younger days etc.). It’s a damn shame that Oda prefers to utilize cool panels like ‘I haven’t been this excited to fight in a min’ etc., fodder reactions, or comments of his rivalry with Shanks to hype him up when he’s had the opportunities to show he’s different class on panel in the manga. I have no doubt that he’s one of the strongest in the verse, he’s Zoro’s goal & his title of WSS I’d think is testament to just how strong he is but Oda has done a poor job justifying that title.

Personally i do not think he is treating the title badly. I for one have enjoyed looking at a singular person (zoro) and his drive to get to one man (mihawk) without all the extra people going for that goal it puts in a simple perspective that all we have to do is watch zoros growth to see how strong mihawk actually is, and the fact that zoro trained with him and still isn't ready also speaks volumes for how strong mihawk actually is. Finally if you take the vivre cards as a fact then we know mihawk is waiting for someone that's over 2 handed shanks, he currently views current 1 armed shanks as a has been(outdated), and also he has no worthy challengers so for me oda has given me enough to respect the wss title i just gotta be patient until oda is ready to let him pop off.

Only zorofanboys take that serious, the other normal people that have basic reading skills can understand that those tittles of World Strongest Something are just hype-tools to scare fooder in the verse.

Not Vista nor Smoothie or any top swordsman except Zoro and Kuina
It is a shallow title and dream made just for Zoro to have somewhat a goal to follow

I almost understand the complaints except...
No one out there is challenging for these titles anyway. The only person we see go for Kaido's head as WSC is Zoro. Not Newgate, Roger, Rayleigh, Garp, Shanks, Akainu, etc. The only person we've seen go for WSM besides the WSS is... Crocodile, lmao. These are basically the only guys who want that kind of smoke.
