Speculations Would Black Blades' ability be retconned in the near future?

Of the two BBs we have seen in the series, Yoru & Shusui, the ability explained and promoted by the story is that they are virtually indestructible, but apparently not much else.

However, Gomu-Gomu being retconned recently got me thinking, since this means no ability is above being rewritten in OP, does this mean we will see Black Blades being retconned into having their own power? Like cutting something metaphysical or abstract (like a memory or a future)? Or sending out haki beam slashes?

Yeah, you are probably on to something. Wouldn't surprise me if a black blade gives you highest AP in the series even above Akainus magma.

Doesn't make Zoro, Ryuma or Mihawk into glass cannons but they will have much higher AP than durability thus they don't become broken characters because they can't tank hakais left and right.

It was already retcon when we learn that the blade was not crate with a black steel.

But rather than saw another retcon, I rather think that Oda will probably states that only the one who made the blade black can use his true potential (true potential being whatever is convenient for the plot).

Indestructible + more haki, not much else is needed for them.

Technically being indestructible already offers a huge advabtage for swordsmen defensively they could defend all day pair up with future sight, don't need much more than that.

It will, Mihawk wasn't trying at all in Marineford, he didn't use haki / named attacks or anything.

and Zoro was using Shusui as a borrowed sword. He wasn't the one that turned Shusui into a black blade. I think the swordsman that turns the blade into a Black Blade will be able to do different things with it.

Yes, black blades have bankai but it can only be unleashed by the swordsman who forged it black.

Zoro can already manifest his will into reality via Asura. Reality alteration for black blades is not impossible. They are permanently infused with somebodies will to such a degree that even hundreds of years later they still remain in their state, so as far as I am concered they ought to be quite bullshit. So yeah, why not let have the instruments of powerful peoples will be able to do some OP shit? Just being stronger is boring.

Its also not like they are abundant. Two of them appeared thus far. Let them cut a soul, a concept etc. why the hell not?

The big problem with black blades is that we've known them since day one, we've seen how Zoro performed with one, we've seen how Mihawk performed with one and so far they haven't been impressive at all. And this all probably comes from the fact that "black blade" as in permanently black weapon wasn't a proper concept until very recently; in other words, odds are Mihawk's sword was designed as black just for the sake of his theme since black armament wasn't a thing until post-timeskip (we can apply the same to Ryuma, in fact, who also comes from a "darker" design theme) and even in Dressrosa it didn't feel like Mihawk was talking about black blades in an impressive way ("every blade can be a black blade if you apply haki", basically).

When it comes to actual feats, Shusui was indeed hyped by Zoro as having a higher destructive outcome and hardness, but this wasn't something new: Wado Ichimonji was hyped as the only sword to survive the clash with Mihawk, Sandai Kitetsu was very sharp and bloodthirsty (Zoro had problems to subdue it to his own will) and Enma has been consistently emphasized as somehow special (starting by the fact it can suck haki by itself). And regarding Mihawk, he still required the breath of things to slash a weakling like Bonez, something required with any regular blade.

The picture I get from this is quite messy because Oda hasn't really made the black blades any more salient, any more special than regular swords: Mihawk still needs regular swordsman techniques and his Yoru wouldn't break Wado, and Shusui was just one more sword in Zoro's progress (Sandai was hard to master, Shusui was hard to master, Enma was hard to master). Will Oda retcon this to add new abilities? Who knows, he could follow this path but he could also treat it in a more symbolic, philosophical way; show with it that the swordsman fully connected with the blade; or even make it a proof that the swordsman who left his will permanently in his sword achieved with it the pinnacle of the strongest swordsman, which ultimately is about cutting everything but nothing at the same time.

We will see.

this is what I'm betting on
