Character Discussion Nami praise

#3
Sanji had doubts about Luffy and the rest of his friend. He was ready to leave the crew and let everyone down. Nami never believed Luffy would lose to Kaido. She was even more willing to die than deny that he would become the Pirate King. She's great.

Also:

- Usopp disagree with his captain's decision. He was ready to leave the crew and let everyone down. Nami always agree with Luffy. She's great.

- Vivi is clouded by her naivety and bicker with her captain, leading him to punch her. Nami always know Luffy's meaning. She's great.

- Chopper doesn't understand Luffy's meaning of friendship to him. He almost missed becoming Nakama for that. Nami knows how to rely on her friends and Luffy. She's great.

- Robin is not confident about the Straw Hats. She was ready to leave the crew and let everyone down. Nami always believe in Luffy. She's great.

- Franky stole from his captain. Luffy is ready to fight him and end up destroying his family. Nami and her family always support Luffy. She's great.

- Brook refuses his captain's invitation and don't believe him in getting his shadows. Nami is the first one who seeks to join Luffy. She's great.

- Jinbe doesn't trust Luffy's plan and punch him in the face. He was ready to oppose him. Nami always plan whatever Luffy wants to do. She's great.

- Yamato believes in Momo to bring the Dawn instead of her captain. Nami always know that Luffy can save the day. She's great.

Moral of the story: is sucks to be a secondary character, Oda gave you character flaw and depth.

Alright, let's go through these one by one.

- Usopp disagree with his captain's decision. He was ready to leave the crew and let everyone down.
He didn't let anyone down because he still helped his friends free Robin. It was a difference of opinion. Usopp and Luffy sorted that out like pirates and Luffy agreed after that that Usopp left. Sanji never had Luffy's approval. Sanji even gave him to Big Mom's army.

- Vivi is clouded by her naivety and bicker with her captain, leading him to punch her.
A short fight that should calm tempers. Vivi then trusted Luffy.

- Chopper doesn't understand Luffy's meaning of friendship to him. He almost missed becoming Nakama for that.
I even almost agree. But I'm sure Chopper would have gone after him. Luffy didn't have to do much to convince him.

- Robin is not confident about the Straw Hats. She was ready to leave the crew and let everyone down.
There has rarely been anything comparable before. No wonder Robin didn't trust Luffy. They messed with the entire World Government. That's why Sanji should have known better. After everything they went through together, didn't he think there was a way out?

- Franky stole from his captain. Luffy is ready to fight him and end up destroying his family.
Luffy wasn't his captain back then, but his enemy. After that, they formed an alliance and became friends.

- Brook refuses his captain's invitation and don't believe him in getting his shadows.
Brook only knew him for a minute. Sanji had known Luffy for over two years. He knows what they have achieved in Alabasta, Sky Island, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Fishmen Island and Dress Rosa. Brook didn't know anything about Luffy. Can you see the difference?

- Jinbe doesn't trust Luffy's plan and punch him in the face. He was ready to oppose him.
Sorry, I don't know which plan you mean right now. Jinbe was the man with the plan. He calmed Luffy and convinced him to be smart. Why did Sanji hit Luffy? Because he didn't believe in him and wanted him to fuck off the island forever.

- Yamato believes in Momo to bring the Dawn instead of her captain.
Yamato knows that both are important. She said herself that she waited a long time for Luffy to arrive. Didn't she think Luffy would rise again and keep fighting Kaido? And Momonosuke is the future shogun.

Moral of the story: is sucks to be a secondary character, Oda gave you character flaw and depth.
I like Sanji too, but that wasn't a character depth, that was a disappointment that damaged his character a lot - at least for me. He promised to return, he couldn't keep the promise. He insulted and beat up his captain instead of at least saying why he couldn't go. He didn't trust him. But he instead trusted Big Mom, who said she would let Luffy and the others go. At the same time that Brook was fighting Big Mom (!) and Luffy was ready to rip his arms off for Sanji, Sanji wanted to bring some food to Pudding to finally satisfy his perverted needs.
Sorry, @soheilhazrat, I didn't want your thread to go in that direction, but I needed to clarify. Nami is still great!

I found that many people who thought Sanji didn't believe Luffy and misunderstood Sanji forgot Zeff

First of all, although I defended Oda, I'm not those Goda worshipper fanboys.

1. Usopp: Chopper is shown with dejected look on panel about Usopp leaving.
2. Vivi: So it did happened. Point is "things with nakama X happened, then things change".
3. Chooper: no comment since it's "whatif"/speculation territory.
4. Robin: on a smaller scale, Robin saw them against a Warlord, then again a God. She should've known their stance if she left.
5. Franky: same with the Point above, "things happened, things change".
6. Brook: because Brook didn't know them, then it's obvious there is 50% chance they can beat a Warlord and 50% chance they can. Brook chose not to tell them. Glass half full half empty situation.
7. Jinbe: Luffy wanted to do things his way, but according to Jinbe it will be widen the difference and anymosity between races, thus he concocted the Shirahoshi's "help me" plan.
8. It's a character depth because all those Sanji scenes involves
- why this character does what he does
- what the character thinks and feels
Which shows how Oda can masterfully craft his character.

In actuality, Oda always gives us the "reasons" why these characters behave like that. Usopp because Merry is his friend's ship, Robin because of the newfound family, Jinbe because of racial relationship is his dreams, etc.
In Sanji's case, it's about Zeff, which you severely underestimated or perhaps even ignore.

I'm not asking you to be a mindless Oda drone, but if you truly understand Oda's characters, their personalities, their habits and traits, their circumstances, etc, you will have less "criticism" towards him and One Piece in general. This is why OP sells well & popular, it has quality.

All those "reasons" are all justified (because Oda wrote those like that), then it just depend on fans' own experience and perspective in absorbing those "reasons". Or just fans' favoritism/like dislike towards a certain character.

And in your case, it seems about the latter. Instead of the normal/neutral take "because Oda wants Sanji to know Pudding's real personality, so Oda draw Sanji going to her", your focus is on his perverted actions.

There is a plethora or Nami's awesome panel, yet you just had to use that.

The context of that panel is Kaido telling people that Luffy lost. You can see Oda draws Nami's eyes differently there, watery/tearful eyes, NOT firm eyes.

The emotions Oda tried to convey with her is Denial, the first stage of grief, not Confidence.

Your example could backfire your argument, unless this is a high IQ slander/falseflag post.

She was so right :happinesspunch:

She knows her captain
She was wrong. Luffy lost and even died.

@topic
Bad writting. Shitty moments of Nami. That is anything but being strong. She was in denial like a child would. Couldn't face the reality of her captain losing and being killed what really happened.

And she only causes trouble getting Kaido attention like that. "I'm being brave by yelling at Kaido and making Marco loses his time protecting me" while Marco could heal samurais that would at least really face Kaido with their swords not words or even fight Kaido himself.
